A talk on the topic “Robotics2Rural: Innovative Teaching and Research Approaches” was delivered by Prof. S. K. Saha, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi. Prof. Saha started his talk by showing concern about the percentage of unemployability among engineering graduates. He discusses the reasons and also suggested the possible solution to involve students in solving the practical problems in addition to regular curriculum subjects. He added that his today’s talk will show a way to tackle this problem.
Prof. Saha talks about the robotic development happening in India and what robotic projects he and his team are working on. He talks about the research happening at IIT Delhi on collaborative robotics. To encourage the students he showed the robot “RoboMuse 4.0” to which IEC students has contributed in the development. One copy of the same robot was developed at IEC.
In the next phase of his talk, he explains the importance of addressing the rural problems through technological intervention. He talks about the contributions of Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG), IIT Delhi to solve technological-based rural problems. He showed the various projects done by RuTAG, IIT Delhi. He talks about the various events organized by RuTAG, IIT Delhi to increase the participation of students all over the country. He considers this as the pedagogical tool and also the source of producing research content. He talks about the projects “that IEC is doing in collaboration with RuTAG, IIT Delhi. One such project “Improvement in Batasha Making Process” is in the second phase.
The talk was ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Nurul Hassan Laskar, Associate Prof., Department of Mechanical Engineering.
